I am working on Harris versus the Assassins, a sequel to Harris in Underland. It’s set in Persia in 1879, when Harris was lecturing in law at Heidelberg University. He is recruited by a US agent to go to Persia, where Russia and Britain were competing for influence over the Persian military, and tip the competition in Russia’s favour.
Things go badly wrong, of course.
But at the moment I’m taking time to read eye-witness accounts of travel in Persia in the late 19th century. It was a great civilisation, led by idiots, and interfered with by more powerful countries, also led by morons.
